Although the reverse applies in China where it is revered, the number 13 has been considered universally unlucky for anyone living in the UK. Although that may be a superstition dating back to an ancient association with the devil, it certainly appears to be relevant when it comes to the UK national lottery. That’s because since the very first draw on November 19, 1994 the number 13 has been drawn the least number of times in total.
Indeed, as at the July 29, 2009 the number 13 had been selected from the revolving lotto mixing ball a miserly total of 170 times; the lowest of all the 49 numbers entered into the draw lagging two selections behind the next least drawn number of 41. Also, for an amazing 49 consecutive draws between July and December 1997 it was a particularly unlucky number to choose on the play slip as it was not drawn once!
Conversely, the most frequently drawn number is 38, drawn a staggering 251 times during the same period. However, the national lottery is a game of pure chance, there is no skill involved. So, whether you pick 13 on your play slip or not the frequency with which numbers are drawn has no bearing on the probability of winning the top prize. Whatever selection of six numbers chosen the chances of winning the jackpot will still be 13,983, 816 to one.
But, although the number 13 ball may have be drawn least there still have been some very lucky incidences involving the number 13, as the national lottery operators are keen to point out. For example, the same 13-strong syndicate of taxi drivers based in Littlehampton has won significant prizes twice; starting with a £144,222 payout in 2002 for matching five numbers and the bonus ball they followed up with a £546,480 share of the February 2009 jackpot! Additionally, the average number of millionaires created by the lottery every single month is 13.
So, despite its poor draw record not everything associated with the number 13 and the lotto is bad! Despite the fact that 13 is the least drawn number, it doesn’t mean it is totally unlucky. After all it has been drawn 170 times in total; resulting in making many people lottery millionaires in the process. Not bad for a number that is considered to be the unluckiest of the lot when it comes to the national lottery!

The Law of Attraction, used diligently, has been the foundation for the success of many people. However reaching the pinnacle of success is not just about reading the books and understanding the theory. Those spectacularly successful people were disciplined and took action. You can do the same thing and the following seven activities are a good guide to get you started or to refocus if you have let them slip.
1. Take action to produce an income every day. Now I know that sounds a bit obvious but not everyone understands that to be successful you have to take action. Be disciplined and do five income producing activities every day.
2. Daily visualization and meditation. Visualizing your desired state daily or more often is the technique used by many successful people. Write down what it is that you desire and are prepared to take responsibility for, find a quiet space and see, hear, taste, smell and feel what it is like to have it. Meditation assists to still the mind and allow your energies to match your desires. It also frees mind space to let in other, often more intuitive thoughts and ideas. Ideally meditate for 10 to 15 minutes per day, however if you are a beginner start with a few minutes and work up.
3. Do personal development activities for 30 minutes every day to keep your mind focussed and in the right attitude. Give your mind a daily dose of inspiration in the same way that you give your body a daily dose of exercise. Watch The Secret, read an inspirational book, go online and take a look at Abraham-Hicks or read my blog. Just do it!! 30 minutes of personally inspiring and motivating activity every day.
4. Get together with like minded people, preferably those with whom you feel harmony of mind and who are already successful or at least hold a very positive attitude. Have robust conversations with this group of people, bounce ideas around and watch them grow. If you want to find out how to be a millionaire, watch and learn from a millionaire.
5. Build your own expectation that you are a leader – be the person who you believe is a leader, do the things that leaders do, have the things around you that leaders have. If you do not know what it is that leaders do, be and have then do the research and find out. Leadership is not an accident, it is grown and nurtured.
6. Show your appreciation and gratitude for everything that you have, for the people you have in your life, the world around you and every little thing. This strategy is one which will help to maintain a positive attitude and therefore you will be in a better frame of mind to attract things into your life. Being appreciative and grateful will also help your energy to rise and high energy is a feature of successful people. You should also be appreciative of all of those things that you will have in your life; that are coming your way in the future. Show appreciation in your words and keep a journal of your daily appreciation list.
7. Have fun, laugh and enjoy the experience of happiness – not just once per day but as often as possible. Again, a good tip is to mix with happy and funny people and then it just gets easier to be happy yourself.
Now to be clear, it is essential to read the books and understand the theory. I would never advocate that you miss that step, however it is also essential to do something with the knowledge that you have gained and not be overwhelmed and not know where to start. With these seven steps, anyone can get started right away.

Real Estate
One of the widely selected businesses in the passive income group is real estate. Why real estate? Because people perceive this business as almost sure profit business. Majority of families dream of owning a house. This makes the real estate market a huge market. It is also a general perception that a house is an asset. It is usually the biggest single investment for an average income family.
The perception that it is a sure profit business is not always true in reality although the chances of making a profit against losing money is higher. There are times real estate properties are sold at a loss; not to mention those properties that have been mortgaged to banks or financing companies when the appraised or loaned money in exchange for the house is always lower than prevailing or actual price, should the house be foreclosed for non-payment of loans.
The perception that a house is always an asset is also not correct; it can (in many instances) be a liability. If you own a house or intend to have one, consider the following factors to determine if it is an asset or a liability:
Property tax (which is an expense).
Mortgage payment to the bank or loan company (consider the interest charge which is also an expense.
If you are having the house rented to a tenant, is the rental enough to cover above-mentioned expenses?
Other incidental expenses (including maintenance).
Offset the expenses against the income you will generate from the house and you will know if it is an asset or liability. If you are using the house for yourself, compare these expenses to the rent you would pay your landlord. Assuming you are confident that the house won’t be foreclosed in the event of non-payment of loans, you have to consider the value of the house against the total money you will invest on it once it has been fully paid for. That way, you will know if the house you bought is too expensive or not, and if you are going to make money out of it once you sell it.
The mortgage payment you make to the bank may leave you without any savings, and you will miss out on other opportunities to make money because of your obligation on the house.
What you just read are eye openers or wake up calls just in case they haven’t occurred to you. They are not meant to be recommendations. It is a case-to-case basis depending on the situation. Still, the decision is yours.
When it comes to the value of the real estate property you own or want to buy, some of the determinants that can make it more valuable or less valuable are:
Location.
Accessibility to transportation, schools, stores, church, and service-oriented establishments.
Security of surroundings.
Environmental condition like elevation (susceptibility to flooding), road condition.

It is part of business. If consumer items on sale can go as low as half the regular price, a house can also be priced in the same manner.
If you offer to buy a house and the seller accepts but you are still having second thoughts if you want to buy or not, you can come up with conditions like: “subject to approval of partner,” wherein your partner could be your wife or business associate or a friend.
Should you be in the business of buying or selling real estate, a good practice would be to find buyers first before closing a deal with sellers even if you have found the seller first. With this kind of set up, your profit is realized the moment you buy the house, not after you sell it.
In the business of owning real estate properties intended for rental to tenants, hire a property manager or supervisor. A good manager when you pay him/her well is an asset for your business. He/she will reciprocate what you pay with dedicated service and valuable information which you can use for your other real estate businesses. It also allows you more time and attention to other moneymaking ventures which makes your work a lot easier.
Information about bargains on real estate can be available in law offices and in foreclosed departments of banks and loan companies. Court houses handling civil suits regarding land disputes are also sources of information. It is most likely that properties for sale are handled through bidding.
You can also buy a big piece of land and sub-divide it into small ones before putting it up for sale, similar to sub-division developers but in a small way. This is one way to increase the value of the house you sell, thereby increasing your profit margin. Or you can do it the other way around – by buying small lands linked to each other; consolidate it into one big piece, and sell it to a ready buyer.
Another possible source of real estate business is memorial lots. Some rich people invest their money into buying many pieces of these lots and wait for prospective buyers. Your marketing arm can be the sales people of the very company where you bought the lots from. They just draw commissions from you every time a transaction they recommend materializes.
The options on real estate are various and numerous. Your creative juices can be put to good use in this line of business.
Investing
Investing can be a very profitable venture if you have the right knowledge about it. Investors can be categorized into two:
First are the ones who invest their money on ready-made stocks like a packaged deal. They can be likened to RTW (ready-to-wear) clothing. They are similar to buying a computer that comes with the seller’s recommendation of monitor, CPU, printer, keyboard, etc. combined to make a package. Or it is like a set menu in a restaurant. The investor doesn’t have to worry or think much, leaving the choices in the hands of the broker.
The second type of investors are the ones who make, create, assemble, or customize their own investments. They are known as professional investors because they come up with their own creative combination of investment packages. They can be likened to tailor-made clothing.
Being in this category requires extraordinary skills such as the following:
You must be able to see with your mind what is usually missed by others. The mind works creatively. It is like predicting something that is likely to happen.
You must be able to position yourself as the important go-between or middleman. It’s like arranging a deal between a buyer and a seller in real estate.
You must be able to organize professional or smart people – people who are even more intelligent than you are in their own field of expertise. You hire their services and utilize their talent to suit your creative ideas.
In a way, wealth does not always come in the form of money. Wealth is also knowing how to invest. Knowing how to invest is active thinking. The more ways you expose or exercise your mind on investing, the stronger and more creative it becomes.

You need not come up with a huge capital unlike the common or conventional way of doing business. It does not require any employee. You do all the work yourself. Portfolio Income is derived from paper assets; i.e. stock market, bonds, mutual funds, notes (IOUs) and the like. Most professional investors invest in this kind of income. However, ordinary products where poor marketing strategy is employed will have difficulty penetrating the market, thus gathering dust on store shelves and counters. It is the marketing and selling techniques that give an ordinary product or service the extra push to make it extraordinary. The question of whether Bill Gates is doing more good when he keeps his money or when he gives it away, is an interesting one. In which of these two scenarios does mankind benefit more? Before you dismiss this as a clearly ridiculous query, one not even worth considering, ponder this.
When you are worth tens of billions of dollars, where do you keep your stash? Do you hide it under your mattress? That would make for a very lumpy sleeping surface; as a billionaire, it’s not very likely you would put up with such discomfort.
How about burying your fortune in the backyard? With all that loot, you’re not going to be doing any digging. After all, you didn’t get rich digging holes in the ground, but rather by using your noodle, and you’re not about to start with the manual labor now. You could, however, get the gardner to plant the funds in the Azalea bed, but this might not be such a good idea, either. Not to cast aspersions on landscapers everywhere, but what’s to keep her (don’t want to be sexist here) from digging up the treasure when you are not around and heading for the South Sea Islands?
People with obscene (as some might think) amounts of money (the perspective many, who don’t understand capitalism, cling to) don’t hide it — they invest it. They reinvest it into their businesses so it can grow bigger, stronger and give their customers better value for their money. They also invest it in other peoples’ companies, resulting in these other entrepreneurs having money to expand their businesses; in the process, they take advantage of the miracle of compounding interest and as a result, make even more money.
What is the result of all this wealth in the hands of a single capitalist? In Bill Gates’ case:
* His company, Microsoft, and the extensions thereof, have spawned an estimated 12,000 millionaires and four Billionaires
* As of 2009, there were 93,000 employees receiving a very good income and excellent benefits for themselves and their families
* Many other companies which do business with Microsoft, et al, flourish and are able to employ untold numbers, and many start-up and existing businesses have access to the capital they need
* All these well-employed folks and their families have money to spend in their local communities, plus nationally and worldwide
* As a result, there is plenty of money available to be given to any number of worthwhile causes and charities — if these people wish to do so
* The Gates Foundation, as of 2009, has an endowment of 33.5 billion, from which it has given a minimum of 1.5 billion to worthwhile causes annually
Now let’s look at the other side of the coin. What if, after making his first million or two, Bill Gates had decided that having a couple million dollars was as much as any one individual should have or needs to have and took his small fortune and closed up shop? What if he had decided to retire early and live off the interest on his first one or two-million-dollar earnings? Let’s say that he decided to take $500,000 of his money to start a foundation to give grants to those in need. Giving away the interest on the half-million dollars each year, at an average of 10% interest, he could give away about $50,000 per year. In 20 years he would have given about a million dollars to worthwhile causes — not bad. Of course, he wouldn’t have created 12,000 millionaires who, if they gave just a miserly $1,000 each to charity, would be donating 12 million PER YEAR — twelve times as much as Bill could give, under this early-retirement scenario, in 20 YEARS!
Of course, we all know that Bill Gates didn’t take his first piddly little two million and run. He did what many successful entrepreneurs do each year; he risked it all by reinvesting the money he had made back into the business with the hope and belief that he could make even more money and better serve his customers with ever better products and services that would make their lives better.
As a result of his keeping the vast bulk of his money through the early years, Bill Gates now has a foundation that can, with matching funds, give away billions of dollars here in the U.S. and around the world — improving the quality of life for countless people. And this doesn’t even include all the money given to charities by all the billionaires and millionaires resulting from his business acumen. Keep in mind that each little billion is a thousand million or a thousand times as much as Bill Gates could have given to those in need in 20 YEARS, if he had gone philanthropic too soon or too full bore.
We see that when a wealthy person such as Bill Gates keeps his money for himself, he is not really keeping it for himself, because this money is kept in circulation, growing the economy, creating countless jobs in innumerable businesses across the country and the world. Even when a rich person spends his money on food for parties, for a yacht or clothes, it helps to keep the party stores, yacht stores and clothing stores profitable so they can continue to employ their staffs. The truth is that the more rich people there are and the wealthier they are, the more there is for everyone else in that economy — unless the wealthy one “puts it under his mattress.”
Does this truth hold for one’s health and fitness as well as for financial matters? Here is my question for you: When it comes to your health and fitness, is it better to take care of yourself first or your loved ones? If we allow ourselves to become rundown and sick because we ignore our own well-being while helping our loved ones, how much help will we be to them then? Making our own well-being our top priority creates more energy, strength and vitality with which to care for those we love. When we have taken the time to make ourselves ultra-healthy and fit, we are also good role models and a positive example for all in our circle of influence — including strangers we pass on the street.
Bill Gates kept the bulk of his money (invested it) for decades and we are all the beneficiaries of this choice. As a result of his taking care of business (taking care of himself and his “family” FIRST), he and those he helped to become rich can now help many, many more. We can learn from this model, whether we’re talking about finances or health.

If there is one thing that can make you rich, it is by doing the things that you love. Think about it, why Tiger Woods is the best in golf while Donald Trump is number one in real-estate? This is because they love what they are doing, it is where their passion lies, and this is the only key that you need to be successful.
If I told you that Tiger Woods is going to compete with Michael Jordan in basketball, what do you think will happen? Everybody knows that Michael is the best in basketball, and there is no way Woods can beat Michael in basketball. This is a common sense, Tiger Woods is great only in golf because his passion is there and he loves to play golf. This is the main factor that keeps Woods so focused in golf, and that is what makes him the top in golfing.
Therefore, if you want to be successful in your field today, no matter it is in business, or sports, or financial, you have to choose the things that you like to do the most. By doing what you love, you will come up with energy that keeps you going naturally. Today, if you hate your work, then it will be impossible for you to achieve amazing results in your work. First you hate your job; next you don’t have the drive that keeps you going.
Have you ever wondered why Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are so rich and successful? Again, the answer is because they are doing the things that they love. The moment you are doing something that you love, you will never feel tired. Think about it, if you love to play computer games, you can stay up late until midnight 3am and you are still feeling energetic for another match of the game.
However, if you are someone who does not like to play computer games, you will think that it is a waste of time and you will never stay up to 3am just to play a match game. This is the real secret of success. Achieving success is about doing what you love. You need to harness the power of natural motivation that flow in your body to help you achieve what you want in your life. And the only way you can make use of this natural energy is by doing something that you love.
When you are doing something you love, you will never feel tired about it. The best thing about it is that it can help you to stay focused all the time. Like what I have told you just now, Tiger Woods is the best in golf because he had been focused in it for such a long time. The same thing goes for Donald Trump, he put in 100 percent focused in real-estate business, and that is why he is the best.
So you see, when you are doing something you love, it helps you to stay focused in it and improve what you have been loved doing. If you are not doing something you love, you will never achieve amazing results from it. Hence, find out what you really love in your life, and go full force in it, and the drive will follow.
